Cycling Purists Rejoice: Steel Is Back
Posted On 10/2/2007 5:30:24 AM by TriFatlete
A familiar old friend peeked out through the forest of carbon fiber at Interbike 2007 this year, making its presence known after years of neglect: steel is back.
While major manufacturers like Specialized and Giant proffered a deluge of sophisticated, high-tech carbon-fiber models, smaller boutique companies like Salsa Cycles and Swobo are busy bringing new steel models to the market -- and they're selling like hotcakes.
Steel's popularity "has gone up dramatically -- there's actually been a resurgence," says Jason Boucher, general manager at Minnesota-based Salsa Cycles.

Pedaling Technique Summary and Drills | Trifuel
Posted On 8/22/2007 5:39:19 AM by TriFatlete
This is a great article on how to properly pedal on a bicycle. Yes, it seems easy but there is more to it and this resource really gives some in-depth discussion on the proper techniques. The bike goes faster because you apply more watts to rear wheel, period. The rear wheel doesn't care in what manner that power is generated at or applied to the pedals. What matters is what that power is when it reaches the wheel.

Hydration and Hyponatremia
Posted On 8/18/2007 1:06:14 PM by Sandy
Walk into any gym, a children soccer league, or a shopping mall, and chances are that you will see lots of people with water bottles slung to their hips or otherwise close at hand. Certainly within Canada and the United States, the message of the importance of adequate hydration has become entrenched into the general consciousness; however, this has come about both as a result of health educational initiatives but also marketing by the sports drink and beverage companies, making it potentially difficult to separate evidence-based knowledge from myths.

Hill Climbing Part 1
Posted On 8/18/2007 12:59:14 PM by Sandy
Unlike other aspects of cycling, climbing success is considered by most to be almost 100% dependant on fitness and natural ability. After teaching a race clinic a few weeks ago it occurred to me that there is actually much more to it. Over the years, I’ve picked up numerous tricks and techniques that have allowed me to occasionally put one over on a stronger competitor. At the grass roots level, it is possible to just out ride your opponents, but as you get into the higher categories and the gap in ability narrows, strategy becomes increasingly important.

Indoor Training with Rollers
Posted On 4/10/2007 10:08:04 AM by Sandy
As most can agree, the winter months are ideal for indoor training. Opinions will differ when you ask people what the best indoor workout is. The majority of people will likely train on a stationary bike at their local health club, while others, who are really into their sport, will have an indoor trainer set up in their home with their own bike attached to it. Both are very common.
