Acupuncture, a centuries old Chinese medical practice, is
becoming increasingly popular in western cultures. While
the benefits of acupuncture are well known throughout
China, its mode of action is much less well underestood.
In some manner it seems to promote healing in the body
through the use of heat and needles. Use correctly
acupuncture offers relief to a variety of illnesses, such
as migraines, muscle tension, arthritis, and digestive
problems. People who have experienced the healing benefits
of acupuncture use it as an essential cornerstone of the
medical care.
Not only is acupuncture used to treat specific problems, but
it is used in a general way to bring balance to the body by
unblocking meridians. The Chinese see these as conduits for
energy flowing throughout our bodies. When the energy is
blocked, health problems and pain of all sorts can occur.
Clearing the meridians is one of acupunctures main
benefits.
Another great thing about acupuncture is that it can be
used even when other methods of treatment are being used as
well. If a patient is taking medication or undergoing
another type of therapy it is rare for accupuncture to
interfere with the other treatment.
If you are nervous about needles, you may want to rethink
acupuncture, but rest assured that it is not as unpleasant
as you may think. The needles used are of a special type
and typically cause little or no discomfort. Once the
needles have been inserted there is typically no pain. If
you are afraid of needles or have any reservations about
the process express your concerns to your acupuncturist.
If you are contemplating starting acupuncture or would like
to find out more information about the process, there are a
variety of trained and certified acupuncturists in almost
all locations. Check their credentials to make sure they are
certified and licensed; there may be a registry of
alternative health practitioners in your area, with a
listing of acupuncturists. Most acupuncture therapists would
welcome the opportunity to consult with a patient prior to
treatment. The initial consultation is a good time to
discuss health problems, treatment options and to discuss
any anxiety about the process. It's also the perfect time to
establish a rapport between you and the acupuncturist.
Some people are skeptical about the benefits of alternative
medical treatments such as acupuncture. Acupuncture is an
ancient practice that has been proven effective all over the
world. Not only does acupuncture benefit people, some
devotees of acupuncture share the benefits with their pets.
There are some special pet practitioners that will treat
dogs and cats with amazing results. If you are interested in
finding more information about acupuncture check your local
library or favorite internet search engine. You'll soon find
that this ancient practice has many benefits in the modern
world.
