This is Pete Pfitzinger's training plan from his Advanced Marathoning book for mid-mileage marathoners who typically train less than 40 miles per week, but are willing to up their mileage to 55 miles per week during marathon preparation. This 18-week plan starts at 33 miles per week and peaks at 55 miles per week.

As I approached the Como Lake pavilion, I was being led straight to the gallows.
OK, not really. Actually, I was approaching a bunch of women dressed in running gear, their bodies twisted in complicated stretches. As I approached, I muttered to myself, "What am I doing here?"
Two weeks earlier, while writing a story about the Moving Solves Women's Running Club, I'd been struck by the over-abundance of perkiness in coach Kim Maxwell. That exuberance grew even more evident when she talked about how much she enjoyed training beginning runners at various fitness levels.
