Posted On 9/16/2008 8:11:53 PM by TriFatlete
Weight training has developed all types of stereotypes with triathletes. Many believe that weight training will bulk them up. Thus slowing them down by adding extra weight. Master Class - Triway to Hell - NYTimes.com

Because a triathlon requires a swim, a bike ride and a run, a staple of most training schedules is the dreaded “brick” workout: two or more disciplines back to back. The theory is that the brick familiarizes you with the feeling of running on legs whose freshness has long since expired. For most people, a brick is a run immediately following a ride, but really, what’s the difference? Work is work is work.

What a day in Kona (2007) - IRONMAN.com
Posted On 10/17/2007 5:27:59 AM by TriFatlete
There's one thing for sure from this day's coverage: No one could have predicted the events of this day here at the Ford Ironman World Championship.
It was a day that saw some sort of a stomach virus take out both defending champions (Michellie Jones and Normann Stadler), the champion from two years ago (Faris Al-Sultan) and Cameron Brown; a run in with a road cone take out a six-time winner (Natascha Badmann); and a leg injury sideline Luke Bell. Joanna Lawn, for the second year in a row, was sick for much of the day, too.

Ironman Triathlon History & Cartoon Fun by Brownielocks
Posted On 9/20/2007 6:12:20 AM by TriFatlete
Learn how this competition all got started in Hawaii. The Ironman Triathlon began in 1978. A naval commander named John Collins (stationed at this time in Hawaii) was sitting at an awards ceremony for a local Honolulu running race. He ended up in a hot argument over which athletes were in the best condition: runners or swimmers. John Collins himself was both a runner and a swimmer. He had been reading about the bike race the Tour de France and it's legend Eddie Merckx. He decided that cyclists were in the best condition of all. So he issued a challenge that he felt would settle the argument.

Posted On 8/27/2007 10:32:03 AM by TriFatlete
Sample triathlon training programs, sessions and conditioning drills to improve your fitness and performance. Triathletes (or aspiring triathletes) at any level are typically serious trainers. Clocking up dozens, even hundreds of kilometres in the pool and on the road each week takes a hefty commitment. It makes sense that with such an outlay of time and energy that training should be as effective and as efficient as possible. And with a sport like this, it requires some careful, upfront planning...
